Beyond the Prize

The Goldman Environmental Prize provides ongoing support for past and current Prize recipients through several discrete programs.

Continuing Support

In addition to the global recognition and monetary award associated with the Goldman Prize, Prize winners receive access to grants, networking and professional development, security support, and strategic communications, and the opportunity to participate in youth programs.

Networking & Professional Development

To help Prize winners build broader networks, share learnings, and expand their leadership capacity, the Foundation provides support for Prize winners to meet and participate in conferences, professional development, and other capacity building events.

Defense of Prize Winners

Against a backdrop of increased violence targeting environmental defenders, the safety and security of Goldman Prize winners are paramount. The Foundation is committed to supporting Prize winners whose safety and security are at risk. Assistance ranges from letters of support, action alerts, and PR support to risk assessments, urgent defense grants, and access to pro bono legal assistance.

The announcement of the Goldman Prize provides recipients with a global communications platform to amplify their stories and call attention to the most pressing environmental challenges of our time. The Foundation publicizes the ongoing campaigns and achievements of Prize winners through earned, paid, and social media throughout the year. Follow the Goldman Prize on social media, read our blog, and subscribe to our newsletter to stay up to date.

In certain years, past Goldman Prize winners are eligible to apply for grants to advance their organizations’ environmental campaigns and inspire community members to engage in grassroots environmental activism. The grants are administered periodically in partnership with the Jewish Community Federation and Endowment Fund. Explore our blog to learn more about the most recent grantees.

Inspiring Young Environmentalists

Young people are those most likely to be affected by environmental issues—and are also our best hope to address them. Each year, the Foundation brings young environmental leaders together with Prize winners to inspire them to make a difference in their own communities.
